Hello there, students. I am Dr. Gerald Auger. I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce myself, tell you a little bit about my background and who I am personally, because we're going to be together on this journey for quite a while. So getting to know each other, I think, is going to, you know, provide some some context and some service.

00:00:23:14 - 00:00:44:28

So really quick. I have been working in the information security industry for close to 20 years. I've been doing a bunch of different jobs, but mainly my expertise and focus is in an area called GRC or governance risk and compliance. And there's an entire module in the course on this, so you'll get to know it very well, believe me.

00:00:44:28 - 00:01:08:22

But I have been educating as well for a number of years. You can see at the bottom left there, that is the Citadel Military College, where I've been a faculty member for several years there in their cyber sciences department. I also run a community called simply Cyber Right There, Dead center. You can see it on my mike stand flag thing here.

00:01:08:24 - 00:01:28:27

Simply cyber is a community with tens of thousands of community members who are looking to get into cybersecurity or work in cybersecurity and share with each other. It's very supportive, inclusive community. I'm very proud of it, and I spend a lot of my time working with that effort. Also, coastal information security right there, that's my consulting business. So I work in industry.

00:01:28:27 - 00:01:50:29

I educate people. I love information security, talking about it, teaching it, working and playing it, etc. And I do have a family. The top left there, that's my wife and two children who are probably sick of hearing me talk about information security. But it certainly does help as kids come up on tech and play games and the online threats and stuff like that.

00:01:51:01 - 00:02:15:06

I'm very excited about this course. I have taught courses similar to this many times before. The breath of my experience and understanding is sufficient to cover all the topics in this course. I do hold a Ph.D. in cyber operations from Dakota State University. I hold a masters in information shirts and a masters in Computer Science, and my undergraduate is in computer science.

00:02:15:06 - 00:02:46:02

So I have a very good grasp on the technical aspects of our industry. But because I came up on the GRC side, professionally speaking, I have good context around the people and process elements of business and of cybersecurity and best practices to approach bringing cyber risk reduction to organizations. So that's a little bit about me. I'll get into course expectations and schedule and how to do the labs in a different video, but it's nice to meet you.

00:02:46:05 - 00:02:57:06

I'm really excited about being able to impart this knowledge upon you. We're going to have a great experience. Thank you for making it this far and let's get into the course. Yeah.
